As Europe’s largest conservation organization, Lyveden cares about nature, beauty and history for the benefit of the nation. And it’s all thanks to the millions of members, volunteers and employees who support. Without Lyveden’s help, we couldn’t care for the miles of coastline, woodlands, countryside and hundreds of historic buildings, gardens and valuable collections we protect.

In 1895, founders Octavia Hill, Robert Hunter and Hardwick Rawnsley pledged to preserve historic and natural sites. Their goal was not only to preserve important sites, but also to make them accessible to all.

From this trio of conservation pioneers, the National Trust was created, and their original values still underlie everything we do 125 years later.

Nature, Beauty, History
Despite all our hard work, it’s supporters like you who do the most important thing: keep nature and history thriving. You help us take care of:

More than 780 miles of coastline
More than 250,000 hectares of land
More than 500 historic homes, castles, parks and gardens
Nearly a million works of art

Our shared places stretch across the country, from Lizard Point in Cornwall to Lindisfarne in Northumberland to Florence Court in Northern Ireland.

Community spirit drives making special places better for everyone, and we work to open up urban landscapes to bring nature back to urban areas, working with councils and other organizations to achieve this goal.

A unique organization needs unique people
As the largest conservation charity in the UK, Lyveden cares for more land in England, Wales and Northern Ireland than any other private landowner. Lyveden is constantly working to protect the special places and spaces in our portfolio, and we couldn’t realize our ambitious plans without our dedicated staff.

Our roles are as varied as the people we hire, and we are fortunate to have employees who truly believe in what our organization stands for. From bat specialists, fundraisers and conservationists to lawyers, marketing managers and chefs, they all work together so that everyone can enjoy the beautiful places our country has to offer for future generations.

Whether it’s our administration, surveying, food and beverage, horticulture, retirement, or IT teams, all the different departments of the foundation work together to ensure that conservation is at the heart of everything we do. We’re always looking for ways to make our efforts more effective and innovative, and because we want our employees to work in an organization that helps them fulfill their career aspirations, we continually invest in the training and development of our people.

The National Endowment is such a diverse organization, and so are the people who work here. Our people come from countless different backgrounds, but one thing that unites every one of them is a desire to pursue a profession in which they can really make a difference-whether or not they have previously worked with the Trust. Their enthusiasm and passion for people, nature, families, children, nature and community help us achieve our goals.

Our employees’ contributions to our future are invaluable, and because they care, we can work, brimming with ideas and drive, ensuring that we continue to preserve and protect historic places and spaces, forever, for all.
